Farewell To Pat

This month we lost one of our long time members Pat Carter.

Her uninterrupted service and commitment to the group began in 1985  and continued until 2022.

Pat was an active member of Curdnatta and regularly attended  meetings, workshops and exhibitions most recently creating a piece for our Trashion Exhibition in April / May of this year.

She performed many gallery roles over the years, Secretary, Publicity, organiser of the filing cabinet, President during the mid 90s  and then a member of our Management Group.

She was an organising force… Her connections with The Commonwealth Railways and the local community helped make secure our tenancy in the old railway station building and encouraged people to attend our local arts events.

Pat participated in artists’ retreats and workshops where she learnt new skills and was always willing to have a go at something new. She willingly shared her expertise with others.

There was a special bond  with Melva Waterman over many years , creating dyed fabrics that were incorporated into quilts and other projects. This of course led to many amazing exhibitions of their combined work.

Pat love hats and there were several exhibitions of Hilary’s Millinery, aka Pats Hats which also contributed to the local racing scene fashion.

One of our favourite exhibitions was the fashion extravaganza held at The Platform when we first moved into the new gallery 7 years ago when Pat showcased fashion pieces collected over a lifetime.

Pat also contributed to the strength of art in our region through her involvement with the Country Arts Board …. And her support and advice for local arts officers.

We remember  Pat as a strong role model, a person with exceptional talent,  commitment to the Arts, energy and drive  and  in recent years, when health issues challenged her, grit and determination. She had strong opinions tempered with a wicked sense of humour,  a genuine interest in people and  the knack of getting everyone  involved…….  and…….. she was always  impeccably dressed for every occasion.
